The County History and Art Museum Zalău is the beneficiary of a multimedia solution provided by AVITECH, bringing value to the exhibitions organized within this institution, bringing them closer to the visitors. This is a Virtual Assistant impersonating the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (Caracalla) providing the visitors, even from their entry into the museum, the possibility to have an overview of the collections and collections which they can discover in the next rooms.
Inaugurated with the occasion of the Museum Night event, on May 16th 2015, the Virtual Assistant represents a solution tailored according to the beneficiary’s requirements, taking into account also the conditions of its positioning within the museum space.
This solution is the result of collaboration of a multi-disciplinary team that contributed both in the configuration of the audio-video equipment of the system and also in creating the content – the emperor’s discourse – in Romanian and English. The museum staff has the possibility to select the presentation language according to visitors’ preferences.
The County History and Art Museum Zalău was inaugurated in 1951, when the activity of object collecting and organizing the main exhibition started. Along time, remarkable collections of coins, Roman statuettes, Middle Age, Modern and contemporary documents and also ethnographic patrimony elements and contemporary art with local-regional significance have taken shape. The option for the image of Caracalla emperor (the nickname of the 21st emperor of the Roman Empire - Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus Augustus) was due to the discovery of certain evidence of his presence in Salaj area, namely fragments of a bronze imperial statue created with the occasion of his visit to Porolissum, around 214 A.C.
