Virtualization solution for U.A.I.C. Iasi

AVITECH implemented a virtualization solution for the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. The project serves two classrooms and helps streamline both teaching activity and network administration in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.

Virtualization is an IT architecture concept which allows sharing and allocation of a server's hardware resources into several virtual machines (VM = Virtual Machine). This creates the possibility to simultaneously run several operating systems on one hardware platform.

The advantages of virtualization solutions as compared to traditional PC network solutions include: easier management of hardware resources, a more rigorous control of the use software and licensing, centralized data storage in a common location on a server easy to create back-up for, thus, avoiding loss of information or documents.

The solution implemented in UAIC Iasi is based on two servers for which AVITECH specialists have conducted a series of upgrades. The two servers are connected to 100 HP Thin Client terminals through a structured cabling network. Servers are provided with backup power sources.

The equipments are manufactured by from leading companies in the industry: Hewlett-Packard - AVITECH partner in this project, Cisco, Eaton.

Established in 1860, the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iasi is the oldest institution of higher education in Romania. The University enjoys an important prestige nationally and internationally, having numerous collaborations with many universities abroad.
