Multi-Gas Detectors Protect Lives

Since 2003, ATEX and IECEx certification has been required across Europe for equipment used in hazardous environments. This certification ensures that equipment is designed and built to prevent explosions in high-risk areas, thereby protecting both the work environment and personnel. If you need ATEX-approved sensors for your project or for workplaces with explosive risk areas, Dräger sensors offer optimal measurement results and are resistant to the influence of toxic substances that typically affect other sensors.

International Leader in Safety Technology

With over 130 years of experience in security technology and 70 years in portable gas detection, Dräger stands out for creating reliable and multifunctional gas detectors. These are used for monitoring workspaces, checking gases in confined spaces, detecting leaks, and general risk area monitoring.

Personal protection, area monitoring, entry permits for confined spaces, as well as safety measurements for wells, ducts, or tanks are not an issue with the new generation of Dräger X-am devices. These devices not only detect toxic and flammable gases but also vapors and oxygen, being essential for personal protection in extreme conditions. Dräger X-am is designed to be easy to use, with low operating costs and high reliability due to durable sensors.

Dräger offers portable gas detectors (mono-gas and multi-gas), designed to provide the most intuitive compliance and product management, thus ensuring a complete solution of products that offer protection at all times.

Personal Safety at All Times

With Dräger multi-gas detectors, up to 7 hazardous substances can be measured simultaneously – toxic and flammable gases, as well as vapors and oxygen. These detectors are primarily intended for personal protection but can also be used for confined space verification measurements (using special accessories) and even for area monitoring.

Equipment

Dräger X-am 8000

  • Detection for 1 to 7 gases
  • For open space measurement
  • Detection of toxic and combustible gases, as well as vapors and oxygen

The X-am 8000 detector for 1 to 7 gases simultaneously detects toxic and flammable gases, as well as vapors and oxygen – both in pump mode and diffusion mode. Its innovative signaling design and useful assistance functions ensure complete safety throughout the process. It also features advanced software functions, including gas measurement changes for PID, CatEx, and IR sensors during operation.

During monitoring for potential high methane concentrations, an optional automatic range switch simplifies measurements: if the Cat-Ex sensor measures values above 100% LEL, the display switches to the 0 – 100 vol% range. A similar function for simultaneous measurement in % LEL and vol% is also available for the IR EX ES sensor.

Dräger X-am 5600

  • Detection for 1 to 6 gases
  • For personal air monitoring
  • Detection of explosive, flammable, and toxic gases, as well as vapors and oxygen

Dräger X-am 5600 is one of the smallest gas detection instruments, designed for measuring up to 6 gases. Ideal for personal monitoring applications, it provides precise and reliable measurements of combustible gases and vapors, toxic gases, as well as oxygen. The infrared IR Ex sensor allows measurement of explosive hydrocarbons, flammable in the lower explosion limit range.

It is suitable for use in classified zone 0 (areas where explosive atmospheres are expected). Besides hydrocarbons, hydrogen can also be an explosive gas. Since infrared-based sensors do not alert against hydrogen explosion hazards, Dräger X-am 5600 combines the two sensor signals for effective hydrogen detection.

Dräger X-am 5000

  • Detection for 1 to 5 gases
  • For personal air monitoring
  • Detection of gases, flammable and toxic vapors, oxygen, and harmful concentrations

Dräger X-am 5000 belongs to a generation of gas detectors developed specifically for personal monitoring applications. The 1 to 5 gas detector reliably measures flammable gases and vapors, as well as oxygen and harmful concentrations of toxic gases, toxic vapors, odorant, and amine. Up to 25 Dräger X-zone 5500 units can be interconnected to form a wireless perimeter. This interconnection allows securing large areas (pipes or industrial tanks).

It provides reliable warnings in explosive atmospheres due to the high sensitivity of the innovative Ex catalytic sensor. This sensor is also highly resistant to toxic substances for sensors, such as silicon and hydrogen sulfide. It is water and dust resistant, in accordance with IP 67 standards.

Dräger X-am 3500

  • Detection for 1 to 4 gases
  • For open space measurement
  • Reliable detection of flammable gases and vapors, as well as O₂, CO, H₂S, NO₂, and SO₂

Dräger X-am 3500 has been specially designed for measuring gas concentrations. The 1 to 4 gas detector reliably detects flammable gases and vapors, as well as O₂, CO, H₂S, NO₂, and SO₂. Its innovative signaling design and wide range of accessories guarantee optimal safety and easy handling. In case of an alarm, X-am 3500 alerts with color warning LEDs, a loud sound signal (100 dB(A) at a distance of 30 cm), and vibrations.

Dräger X-am 3500 is equipped with a very powerful pump. It can be connected to hoses up to 45 m long. An adapter facilitates switching between diffusion mode and pump mode at any time. X-am 3500 includes an inductive charging function that enhances the device’s operating time.

Dräger X-am 2800

  • Detection for 1 to 4 gases
  • For personal air monitoring
  • Detection of flammable gases and vapors, as well as O₂, CO, NO₂, SO₂, and H₂S

The multi-gas X-am 2800 detector can detect up to four gases and is equipped with an extremely shock-resistant CatEx sensor. Dräger Gas Detection Connect software provides real-time data transmission and equipment management functions. Designed as a personal monitoring device, X-am 2500 offers superior protection and safety at a lower cost. Approved for use in Ex zone 0 and tested according to protection class IP 68 standards.

The newly developed Ex sensor is ready for calibration within seconds, extremely resistant to shocks, and allows measurement of flammable vapor concentrations, such as gasoline, diesel, and nonane. It can also be used to measure methane, propane, hydrogen, and many other gases. The Ex sensor is resistant to contaminants such as silicon and other harmful substances.

Dräger X-pid 9500

The selective PID gas measurement device is ideal for users who frequently test hazardous toxic substances. Benzene, butadiene, and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are carcinogenic even at the lowest concentrations. Selective measurement is necessary because other gases and vapors are often present. The gas measurement device allows short testing times and lab-quality results.

The "Seeker" mode allows continuous measurement with direct reading of the total concentration of all present volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The "Analysis" mode enables selective measurement for monitoring specific toxic compounds. It is similar to gas chromatography analysis performed in a laboratory.

Toxic compound concentrations in work air must not exceed threshold values. For carcinogenic vapors such as benzene, chronological weighted averages in the reduced ppb-ppm range must be determined.

Areas of Application

Wherever Dräger products are used, it is about the most important thing: your safety and life. Each detector is designed to provide reliable warnings to prevent serious industrial accidents, thus contributing to a safer environment.
  • Mines and Tunnels: The measuring instruments used by miners alert them to dangerous gas concentrations. Dräger products help them stay safe in critical underground situations.
  • Oil & Gas Industry: Through highly sensitive gas detection systems for toxic or flammable gases, Dräger develops solutions for safety and protection against risks.
  • Chemical Industry: Gas measurement devices offer protection against hazardous materials and risky substances.
  • Metallurgical Industry: Sparks, extreme temperatures, hazardous gases, and other dangerous substances are "up-to-date" in the steel and metal industry, under the harshest working conditions.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants: Flammable gases, hazardous biosolids, and volatile chemicals are some of the hazards workers face daily in wastewater treatment plants, sewer systems, tanks, and pipes.
